Karen O and KK Barrett’s psycho-opera Stop the Virgens, which debuted in October 2011 at St. Ann’s Warehouse in Brooklyn, is an assault on the tragic joys of youth told through a series of fever dreams. Directed by Adam Rapp with musical direction from Yeah Yeah Yeah’s bandmate Nick Zinner and producer Sam Spiegel of ., the psycho-opera is comprised of nine unreleased songs from Karen O. We go behind the scenes to see how it developed from an album written seven years ago into a live performance.
