Hats Issue Title Is Let’s Join The Ladies (1943)

Part of issue LET’S JOIN THE LADIES. Pathe Studios, London. C/U of model lying back with blonde hair spread out. C/U of model in Regency wig. Various cartoons of women from 19th century wearing bizarre hats. M/S of naked woman hiding behind large straw hat. Comic sequence performed by actors: a husband finds his wife chopping up his best trilby hat to make new hat for herself. The wife has resorted to recycling due to hat rationing! Various shots of novelty performer, the “old time hat brim manipulator“. He bends and twists an old black hat brim first into a cowgirl’s Stetson and then into a nun’s habit. He finally bends the brim into a cocked hat as worn by Napoleon. Various cartoons by Joe Noble of comical hats with specific wartime uses. There is a metal hat for the Blitz, a blackout hat with a torch, a self-raising hat and a radio hat. We hear voice of Lord Haw Haw (aka Lord Haw-Haw) coming from radio (probably an impersonation). In some shots we see the hand of the cartoonist.
