The Oyster Princess / Die Austernprinzessin (1919) Ernst Lubitsch

The spoiled daughter of a mega-rich American tycoon has set her mind on marrying a prince, and what’s more, he has to be European. In a tantrum, Ossi causes havoc in her magnificent parents’ house and attacks her father until he finally gives in. Prince Nuki arrives just in time — but it is really the prince’s valet, Josef, sent on ahead in disguise to assess the situation. Since Ossi has no time to waste, she marries the wrong prince without further ado. Director Ernst Lubitsch, who went on to become a famous Hollywood director, gives a foretaste of his later work in this riotous comedy.
