United States Volcano Mystery; Eruption Swarm 1,000 Years Ago

Unknown to many, the states of Arizona and Utah both contain active volcanoes, with a total of 4 young systems present. Surprisingly, all four of these volcanoes seemingly erupted around the same time 1,000 years ago. Although this may have simply been a coincidence, the odds of these eruptions being due to random chance are 1 in 23,000. So, why did so many volcanoes seemingly erupt at the same time? This video discusses one possibility of a geologic event which may have triggered a series of volcanic eruptions across these two states. The young lava flows emplaced by these eruptions can today be viewed near Flagstaff at Sunset Crater, the Grand Canyon, and south-central Utah.
