Death toll in China earthquake increases to 134, rescue operations in Gansu come to a close

Authorities also said Wednesday that rescue operations in Gansu province are “basically over“ with attention now turned to the injured and those that lost their homes. According to state media, rescue teams are still operating in neighboring Qinghai province, where at least 13 people are missing. The media also reported that over 87,000 people have been temporarily relocated, however, survivors are facing sub-zero weather conditions and a shortage of tents. In Gansu, more than two hundred thousand homes were damaged or destroyed, affecting more than 145,000 people.
