Alexei Navalny’s coffin arrives at Moscow cemetery
Hundreds of mourners have gathered outside the church in Moscow where Alexei Navalny’s funeral is being held on Friday.
Photographs show substantial crowds behind barriers which were seen being erected by workers the day before. Russian riot police officers have also been pictured near the church.
Mr Navalny’s coffin was seen being carried into the church, as western diplomats were spotted in amid the estimated hundreds which have assembled.
People were heard applauding and chanting “Navalny, Navalny”.
Tensions have been high around how the day will go, with Kremlin warning that any unsanctioned gatherings would violate the law.
Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: “Just a reminder that we have a law that must be followed.
“Any unauthorised gatherings will be in violation of the law, and those who participate in them will be held accountable - again, in line with the current law.”
