The city center plunged into darkness as power failed, schools closed, flights were redirected, and ferry services stopped—a cascade of disruptions stemming from this natural disasters. This flooding followed closely on the heels of another record-breaking natural disasters, where Italy experienced 29 inches of rain in just 12 hours. Genoa in Liguria bore the brunt of this unprecedented event. The storm brought fierce winds, relentless rain, and monstrous waves, making it one of the most severe natural disasters to hit Sicily in recent memory. It inundated streets and homes, triggered landslides, and caused power outages even in inland areas.
