Egypt: Researchers digitally unwrap mysteries of King Amenhotep I mummy

Dr. Zahi Hawass, Egyptologist, and Dr. Sahar Saleem, Professor of Radiology at Cairo University and international expert in radiology of antiquities, unveiled the contents of the mummy of King Amenhotep l, as seen on Thursday in Agouza, in the Giza Governorate, north of Cairo. Thanks to the use of x-ray technology, CT (computed tomography) scanning, as well as advanced computer software programs, Saleem and Hawass were able to digitally unwrap the mummy of Amenhotep I in a safe, non-invasive method without the need to touch the mummy or damage it. “We found out that the face of Amenhotep I is exactly similar to the face of his father Ahmose,“ said Dr. Hawass, adding, “Another thing we found out was that the king died at the age of 35, and this is early.
