Abou this concert: In 2005 New Orleans legend Allen Toussaint was forced to flee to New York after the devastating hurricane Katrina. There he played a couple of benefit concerts with the British sorcerer Elvis Costello. Four months after the disaster they were the first to hit the New Orleans studios again. The album The River in Reverse, the result of their collaboration, is generally seen as a pinnacle in the careers of both music greats. Watching Hot As a Pistol, Keen As a Blade, a live version of the album completed with classic Costello and Toussaint material arranged for big band, it becomes clear how perfectly both artists complement each other. This was one of those must-have-been-there concerts! North Sea Jazz is very proud to present this happening here this year. Toussaint, the composer of Working in a Colemine and numerous other hits, and Costello, the rock sorcerer who did too much to mention, truly are two of a kind.
