NTU Singapore scientists develop fabric that can stiffen on demand
NTU Singapore and Caltech scientists have developed a new type of ‘chain mail’ fabric that is flexible like cloth but can stiffen on demand. This is similar to Batman’s cape, which is generally flexible but can become rigid when the caped crusader needs it as a glider.
This new invention paves the way for next-generation smart fabrics. Some potential uses include: protective exoskeletons for high-impact sports, medical support for the elderly or bulletproof vests.
