JAPAN IN TEARS! More than 100,000 affected. Severe floods in Ishikawa Prefecture.
Ishikawa Prefecture, especially the Noto area, has seen record-breaking rainfall. This has caused more than 12 rivers to overflow their banks and cause widespread flooding. Tens of thousands of people in three cities in central Japan have been ordered to evacuate (Wajima, Suzu, Noto). The floods caused natural disasters, filling the streets of cities and towns to critical levels. The torrents of water in some places submerged houses up to their roofs. In other places, the level was lower, but it was enough to cause chaos for local residents. The torrents of water washed away the foundations of bridges and sometimes even exceeded their level, which led to their destruction.
About 18,000 people in Wajima City and another 12,000 in Suzu were evacuated. Also, 16,000 residents of Niigata and Yamagata Prefectures, north of Ishikawa, were also ordered to evacuate. In addition, buildings were flooded and rivers overflowed in many places. The city of Wajima was hit the hardest, with entire streets flooded. The Ishikawa Prefectural Government said in a statement that at least 100,000 people were affected in that city alone. Nearby villages were also flooded as three rivers overflowed.
Due to the mountainous terrain, landslides were reported in various parts of the prefecture. At least two houses have already been confirmed to have been destroyed by landslides. Landslides occurred near a tunnel leading to the center of Wajima, blocking traffic in 24 places on Route 15. The JMA has declared a state of emergency due to heavy rain, the highest alert level. Local authorities said that a total of about 45,000 residents of the cities were ordered to evacuate. In recent years, some parts of Japan have seen unprecedented amounts of rainfall.
The area was also hit by a powerful 7.5 magnitude earthquake earlier this year. The aftermath of which has not yet been fully resolved. And now, severe floods have hit local residents, which is clearly too much. Although, due to climate change and uncontrolled pollution of nature, such disasters will continue and even become stronger.
