This duo was formed in 1982 after Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe met in a hi-fi shop in Chelsea, London , where they discovered that they had the same love for electronic music. They took their name from a group of friend who worked in a pet shop, thus they were the ’pet shop boys’. Their breakthrough came with their re-release of the single ’West End Girls’ in 1985, which topped the UK Charts in 1986 as well as the charts in the USA and Canada. Previously released under a different management it was a club hit in Los Angeles and San Francisco and on the radio in New York.
