Gary Rossington’s original 1959 Les Paul, “Bernice,” resides in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but in 2009 Gibson build a run of nearly identical copies. This Limited-Edition Gary Rossington Les Paul has become Rossington’s main axe on tour. He strings it up with D’Addario NYXL .009-gauge strings and tunes down a half-step. Rickey Medlocke, who has been in Skynyrd’s circles since the ’60s, has favored Explorers in both Skynyrd and his own band, Blackfoot. His main guitar is this 1983 Gibson Explorer that shows the wear of decades on the road. Mark Matejka’s main guitar is this 1991 Fender Stratocaster that he bought brand new back in his native Texas.
