Georgy Sviridov (1915 – 1998) was a Soviet-Russian composer most widely known for his theme for the 1965 movie Time, Forward!, dubbed archetypically communist enough to feature as the opening jingle for the Soviet evening news (Vremya). Much lesser known is the remainder of his oeuvre, neo-romantic with ample deference to the Russian soul, of which this 2003 compilation on Melodiya features some beautiful examples.
