The snake species that lives here is the Tiger snake (Notechis scutatus). Supposedly there are about 3 snakes in every 25 square meters! That is an insane abundance of dangerous snakes. The Tiger snake is one of the most venomous snakes in the world. Only a few species of terrestrial snakes, like the Inland taipan or the Eastern brown snakes, have a more toxic venom. The origin of Tiger snakes on Carnac island is a bit of a mystery. In this video we explain why. The island is about 10 km off the coast of Western Australia. No people live here, but this area is home to other animals like skinks, birds and rare Australian sea lions.
