Making and Math

“During this workshop, we will review several maker projects that use mathematics and have a core mathematical purpose. Models can enable rapid understanding of mathematics, reveal connections between seemingly unrelated contexts, and serve as a learning tool for makers, the general public, and the community. The design, creation, and presentation of these models by students and makers can deepen their knowledge of the concepts and their applications and history. This enables and enriches communication and collaborative mathematical learning experiences. Workshop participants will receive an advanced digital copy of our Guide to Exploring Mathematics by Making and an opportunity to work on sample activities such as the Koch Fractal Collage and Voronoi Flipbook. In addition, each participant will walk away with some new ideas on how to incorporate math more deeply into the maker curriculum and an option to receive a physical Math Art Book! “
