Talking Heads live in Toronto (1977)

Talking Heads performing at A Space Gallery in Toronto, Canada on 27th January 1977 (the band’s first performance outside of the United States!) This was before they recorded their first album, and shortly before Jerry Harrison joined the band, making this very likely the last video of the band as a trio. David Byrne - guitar/vocals Tina Weymouth - bass Chris Frantz - drums Unfortunately the only circulating copy of this show is a recording of a screen which is playing the original tape - it’s still a pretty good capture of a great performance though. Talking Heads played at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto in 1978, and a similar recording from the same source is available on YouTube already which you can watch at They play a variety of songs, some ending up on their first two albums. Some of the songs they play have an earlier version of lyrics than what people hear on official releases. They also play “Questions for Lovers“, a song that never got a proper studio recording or release. The two covers they play are “Take Me to the River“ by Al Green, and “1, 2, 3, Red Light“ written by Sal Trimachi and Bobbi Trimachi and first recorded by 1910 Fruitgum Company. Unfortunately it cuts out before the end of that song.
