1968 - Shirley recorded this classic song on her 1968 LP titled, “Shirley Bassey - 12 Of Those Songs“. This album peaked at #38 on the United Kingdom Charts. Ms. Bassey deliver’s a powerfully rich vocal to this song, and in my opinion, is one of the finest female operatic POP vocalists of the last 70 years. A few other versions of this song that are also favorites of mine are from Andy Williams, Frank Sinatra and Connie Francis. All these wonderful artists bring out something different with this song, and all versions are excellent. ABOUT the song, Moon River: “Moon River“ is a song composed by Johnny Mercer (lyrics) and Henry Mancini (music) in 1961, for whom it won that year’s Academy Award for Best Original Song.
