Boeing 747-400ERF main entry door operation

Hello everyone! Here’s a quick snippet on door operation on the B747-400ERF or B747-8 as well. The demonstration is for the main deck door or L1 as we call it. ( the ‘L’ is for Left door number 1. So ‘L1’ for short). On a passenger B747, the same door would have a slide pack on the bottom for use in an emergency evacuation of passengers but on a freighter aircraft it is removed. Why? Well, for a start, it is not our primary evacuation route on the upper deck. Secondly, there are no passengers on the main deck to worry about and lastly, it saves weight, less maintenance etc for a door that would likely not be used by us crew on the upper deck in an evacuation. Oh? Really? Why would you likely not use it? How do you get out in an emergency then Captain Obet? Answer: we have an evacuation slide attached to an emergency exit door on the right hand side of upper deck just behind the cockpit that we would use to get out.
