Placebo covered the alt-pop singer’s 1985 track in 2003, and their haunting rendition appeared on the hit teen series The O.C. It made an appearance in the season 4 premiere of the drama in 2006 and quickly climbed the charts then. It was also used in the pilot episode of The Vampire Diaries in 2009.
