SpaceX conducted the Dragon high altitude drop test on 12 August 2010 to validate the parachute deployment systems and recovery operations. An Erickson S-64 Air-Crane nicknamed “Elvis“ released Dragon from km (14,000 feet) altitude off the coast of Morro Bay California, north of Vandenberg Air Force Base.
