Most of John Carpenter’s greatest films weren’t well-received when they first came out, but critics have gradually come around to them over time. They Live is one of the finest examples of this: a lot of ’80s viewers didn’t know what to make of the over-the-top alien movie that was a critique of the Reagan administration, but it built up a sizable fan base over the years.
