Paul Smith Piano Joe LaBarbera Drums Jim De Julio Bass Paul played for Ella Fitzgerald for eleven years and when he wasn’t on tour with her he often played as a solo at the Velvet Turtle in Redondo Beach CA. That’s where I met him in the late 60’s or early 70’s. He was amazing with his somber look and able to talk baseball while playing the incredible piano I had ever heard. What a great artist he was.
