Chinese President Xi Jinping paid a special visit to the Xincheng Mosque in Yinchuan City Tuesday morning, during his current fact-finding tour of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region in northwest China. The Chinese president chatted and compared notes with imams and Islamic followers in and outside of the mosque, the largest in the autonomous region and one of the largest in northwest China. Xi offered cordial greetings and good wishes to the Muslims in the region. Xi said the ethnic minority groups and their religions in China have been evolved and developed throughout an over 5,000-year history of civilization and they have been growing on solid foundations. The president hoped religious people to play a positive role in poverty reduction and in promotion of development while carrying on and forwarding the traditions of loving their country and religions. The imams and Muslims at the mosque agreed to continue contributing toward a harmonious environment for social progress.
