Trying Out the Chinese Hook Shield (Gou-Rang)

Where to find these Han Dynasty shield reproductions: Ancient China had some interesting and (to European eyes) unusual weapons. The hook shield is somewhat comparable to the medieval buckler but unlike anything that was used in the West during that time period (which saw the rise and height of the Roman Empire). So in this video we experiment with the Gou-Rang to see how it could be used and how it compares to other types of shields. It seems to be useful even against polearms. I currently don’t have a practice jian, so I had to use the closest equivalents I own: A sidesword and a Viking sword. Not terribly close, but what can you do. *** Support the channel *** Help fund future videos, get bonus content and other rewards: For one-time donations:
