Jerry Waddel - Cryin’ In The Rain

Tinted with Boogie Blues à la ZZ Top, She’s rockin’ my Blues away seems to announce an energetic album, but Cryin’ in the rain immediately rebalances the whole. His deep voice immediately made me think of John Campbell, but less depressed, for me it’s more of a compliment. Over the course of the titles, he will add a more Swing or more Delta touch here or there, but everything maintains a guiding line. The guitar solos are short and effective, no display, no flamboyant flights of fancy, just interventions serving the pieces and not the opposite, that’s another good point. The only shadow on the board is Guard your heart, a stroll, nay, a stroll, a real caricature of a stroll with layers of keyboards and the usual more energetic solo in order to wake up those who are falling asleep. I had to have one that I didn’t like, so at least it turned out wonderfully. On the other hand, Cryin’ In the Rain is a rather successful Slow Blues, probably carried by the distress of the voice. Let’s add that with eight titles I was left a little unsatisfied, but by putting it back a second time it works. To listen to at least twice. Welcome to Red Grey Matter Club!
