Big band fans will love the ’Tribute to Maynard Ferguson’ with its catchy jazz standards and original MF big band arrangements presented by the Swiss Youth Jazz Orchestra (SYJO) directed by Fritz K Renold at the virtual Jazzaar Festival event in April 2021. Special guests are Wayne Bergeron, Maynard’s own celebrated lead trumpeter together with top lead trumpeters from the UK, Ryan Quigley and Louis Dowdeswell are chosen to take turns to play Maynard’s parts. Five other featured artists are indeed alumni of the Maynard Ferguson Big Band such as Tom Garling on trombone, Tim Ries on alto sax, Christian Jacob on piano, Gildas Boclé on bass, and Peter Erskine on drums. The players not only perform but also engage us with their stories with Maynard and share their impressions of the project. See them revive the Big Band Bash with a smoking performance of fever-pitched trumpets soaring above the swinging grooves of the rhythm section led by Peter Erskine!
