Meditation in Bb minor: Saudade - Rohan Williams [2012] (original piano)

Hi everyone! I am Rohan, a mostly self-taught amateur pianist and composer from Australia. I wrote this ruminative piece in 2012. For me, it conjures feelings of longing, melancholy, nostalgia, that kind of thing. Saudade is a Portuguese word that captures this feeling. It doesn’t have a direct English translation but there are similar to words from other cultures, such as the Welsh hiraeth, and the German Sehnsucht. Wikipedia describes saudade as “an emotional state of melancholic or profoundly nostalgic longing for a beloved yet absent something or someone. It is often associated with a repressed understanding that one might never encounter the object of longing ever again. It is a recollection of feelings, experiences, places, or events, often elusive, that cause a sense of separation from the exciting, pleasant, or joyous sensations they once caused.
