Some quick moments from the preview recording event for Season 6 of Battlefield 2042. The new weapons ( L9CZ pistol, G428 DMR, VHX-D3 assault rifle ) are decent and the only real complaint I have is that the G428’s scope options are missing the good ones when it comes to red dot sights. I know it’s a minor thing but really why are they bothering with the scope restrictions like they are team or faction related when that isn’t a design direction they went with all other aspects of the game. I mean Specialists, no-pats, whatever are basically mercenaries why would they bother worrying they have some foreign faction’s optic on their gun.
Regarding the new map called they called it it wasn’t obvious from this video or other videos on the Season 6 preview of the new map, it is based on Operation Metro and Locker from Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4. I’m not sure if it was because we had played so much of those maps in both of those games or something else but I got bored of this map real quick, like sure it’s great for some shenanigans but it feels like it was done to death in previous Battlefield games and unlike those previous games Battlefield 2042 has a whole lot more issues just with Specialists and infantry only combat. Like with the unblanced vehicle combat it can be glossed over or distracted with infantry combat but when you separate them those issues become more apparent. I do like the dome idea in the map design, mainly because if they had made it bigger and included ground vehicles it could have been similar to the tank test range they had in Ghost in the Shell SAC season 1. They could have gone further with it by having multiple large domes connected to each other that simulated various environments and terrains.
The worry I have is people will make claims that this is what Battlefield or BF2042 needs because the map or it’s CQB nature is something seen or was seen on a lot of the original BF2042 core maps before they were reworked. The stadium on Hourglass, the tanker ship on Discarded, the E sector buildings on Renewal, the oilrig area on Breakaway, there were lots of infantry focused CQB areas on all the core maps. But according to the community they didn’t have that or they just ignored it, either way what they really wanted is infantry only throughout the game in which case I have to wonder why they are even playing a Battlefield game when other games would be more appropriate for that kind of gaming experience. Although the argument could be made that they are driven to want that infantry only experience because of the vehicle vs infantry unbalance that has been in the game since before it launched. I would have rather seen them try a different style of map like Seine Crossing from BF3 where it had a lot of city elements, buildings, etc. that blocked line of sight but also included ground vehicles. But then you still run into the same unbalance problem all maps in BF1, BFV, and BF2042 experience where players are allowed to choose whatever vehicle they want. Restricting or limiting what can spawn when designing the maps makes it harder for players to unintentionally screw their team over.
I think the new “gadgets“ aka the small med and ammo bags are similar to Falck’s syrette pistol in that they can create bad habits, similarly to all Assault Class Specialists getting the med pen people get too accustomed to always being able to immediately heal themselves after a fight or after they take damage. Players get too used to it to the point that they avoid playing other Classes or Specialists.
I experienced audio dropouts from this build however I also experienced them prior to this Season 6 update. I’ve had these audio dropouts happen with other games and I haven’t found a reason or cause for it but have noticed it can go away if the PC is restarted which is something that makes me wonder if there was a Microsoft update or some other similar change that can cause the PC to get in a bad state from cold boot that gets resolved when rebooting the PC.
If the shock paddles weren’t a big enough clue I tend to not take these events seriously and skip killing bots because you can in fact skip or ignore them a lot of the time.
