Korea War - 1950 | Movietone Moment | 30 June 2023
On this day in 1950, President Harry S. Truman ordered U.S. armed forces to assist in defending South Korea. Here is a British Movietone report showing reinforcements leaving for Korea.
As reinforcements leave for Korea, President Truman promises victory, however long the job may take. The aircraft carrier “Bataan“ is leaving Norfolk, Virginia. In Korea, the southern native, under the direction of American troops, build and repair the all-too-few airfields. First the wounded GIs are brought back from the front. Refugees present a problem, following the pattern of all sudden aggressions. Meanwhile, against heavy odds, the Americans fight a vital delaying action. Undoubtedly, their presence has stiffened South Korean defence.
