GAME RECAP: Penguins vs. Coyotes () | Four-Goal 3rd Period
Phil Kessel returned to town with the Arizona Coyotes, but the Penguins, on a five-game win streak, were determined to not make it an easy contest for the visiting team. After a goal-less opening frame, Schmaltz opened the scoring for Arizona. Just over three minutes later, Sidney Crosby set up Bryan Rust’s power-play goal with a highlight-reel worthy assist: from the goal line, Crosby got the puck to Rust over near the opposite faceoff dot with a no-look, between-the-legs pass. Rust made no mistake and knotted things up, 1-1. Keller earned a tally with the man-advantage to gain the Coyotes the lead once again, but the Penguins had an answer for that one, too. Kris Letang sniped one past Arizona net minder Vejmelka after Crosby and Rust played catch. The 2nd period would end, 2-2. In the final period, things really opened up. Schmaltz got his second of the night past Jarry. Then, the Penguins took over. Brock McGinn caught a pass from Rodrigues mid-flight and tucked home a backhand shot perfectly past Vejmelk
