As China-US box rates soar to $2,000, ’wait-and-see’ Chinese exporters look to combined transport

At this warehouse in south China’s Shenzhen City, workers with a local electronics maker are busy preparing their next shipments to the United States. But the question of how they’ll be delivered, remains up in the air. As of mid-August, it cost roughly 2,000 U.S. dollars to ship a 40-foot container from China to California, a 61 percent increase from July. The sudden price hikes have forced some manufacturers to delay their shipments.
