Martín y Soler: Una cosa rara (opera completa)

This is a beautiful, rare historically informed performance of Vicente Martín y Soler’s Una cosa rara (1786), with libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte. The libretto itself is based on the Spanish play, La luna de la sierra (1653) by Luis Vélez de Guevara. This production, directed by Francisco Negrin, was filmed at the Drottningholm Court Theatre of Sweden in 1993, with Nicholas McGegan leading the Drottningholm Court Theatre Orchestra. The Drottningholm Court Theatre is a historic theatre from 1766 that preserves its original wooden machinery and architecture. It thus allows for the revival of 18th century theatrical performance with historic fidelity.
