“THE MICROPHONE“ was an annual Latvian national song competition, which revealed the best songs selected by spectators voting. 15 years in a row (1968-1982) Raimonds Pauls’s songs awarded the Best Song Of The Year title. Starting with 1983 the maestro did not nominate his own songs for the competition to enable other composers to have a chance to win this title.
