Two very happy wolfdogs

Meet Doug, our newest rescue! We believe Doug is a low content wolfdog but will be doing an Embark DNA test to be sure! Indigo and Doug are very in love. Doug joined our family in December after our elderly male pitbull, Diesel, passed away. We had been trying to rescue Doug ever since we rescued Indigo. He had been sold, along with Indigo, a third wolfdog, and an Australian Shepherd, to a young woman. After Indigo got hit by the car, we begged her to give us all four dogs as they were all residing in crates full time and she was clearly unable to care for them. She relinquished Indigo and Riley, another wolfdog to us, but refused to give up Doug or the Australian Shepherd. Unfortunately, the Australian Shepherd died after escaping with Doug. Doug spent some time lost, but was returned to the young woman. After two years, the young woman decided she’d had enough of him and listed him on Craigslist. A family got him off Craigslist, and after realizing he was a wolfdog reached out to a trainer and rescuer named Cheyenne. Cheyenne recognized Doug as the puppy we’d tried to save 2.5 years ago and reached out to us. While we were looking for Doug’s forever home, our old man dog Diesel was diagnosed with end stage cancer. We had been fostering Doug and he already fit into our family like he’d been there all along, so we decided to stop looking for an adopter for him. While Indigo and Doug didn’t spend a ton of time together as puppies, the way they’ve hit it off makes us think there is some level of familiarity. While we miss Diesel with all our hearts, the transition has been so special. It’s almost like Diesel waited until he knew we as a family would be ok, and Doug gave him that peace. We can’t wait to share more of Doug with you all. He’s big, and goofy, and unbelievably sweet. And we’re just so happy that he’s a part of our family.
