Steve Smith - Flam Paradiddles Displaced - #1

I’m having fun working with GADDIMENTS, the new drum book written by Steve Gadd. The book is written for snare drum or practice pad but the examples can be creatively adapted to the drumset. In Drumset Interpretation #1, I’m using “cross-overs” on every other Flam Paradiddle to develop my flexibility and mobility on the kit. Using Vic Firth Timpani mallets is a great way to practice matched-grip technique on a drumset. Mallets are also helpful for working on touch and tone. I like how Steve conceived of the rhythmic displacement of the Flam Paradiddles which engages another level of challenge with the piece. Gaddiments is available from Hudson Music: - Steve Smith
