Scary Times: The West Will Risk it All For Ukraine

David P Goldman an American economic strategist and journalist for Asia Times was privy to a meeting between western high-ranking officials where the Ukraine war was discussed. Though he was limited in what he could reveal, in this article published on 25th March 2024, he exposes how delusional yet desperate the West is to win in Ukraine. He basically says that these western officials know that they have been lying to the public about Russian casualties, the effect of sanctions and about how well Ukraine has been faring in the war. In particular, on the issue of casualties, Mr Goldman notes that 70% of casualties comes from artillery shells and Russia fires between 5 - 10 times more artillery than Ukraine. Further, he alluded to the Pentagon Leak documents of 2023 which showed that Russia, at that time, had only taken 16,000 - 17,500 casualties, which was far lower than US estimates of 100,000 but that Ukraine had taken 4 times as much or between 61,000 to 71,500 casualties. He says, that despite this knowledge, western officials simply have no other option. There is no plan B to save Ukraine. What was alarming was that there was no discussion of peace in this meeting as these officials know that Russia holds the cards and any peace means Russia keeps the 4 oblasts and gets what it wants from Ukraine. In such circumstances, he says he has never been more scared in his career as it is clear that the West is ready to gamble the world away to try to win this Ukraine war.
