She was born as Gaylor Hopkins in Wales. Her career started in 1969 when she finished 2nd in a local singing contest. After she got spotted by a talent scout she was signed to a record deal in 1976. Her debut album ’The World Starts Tonight’ did not make a big impact, except in Sweden where it peaked at #2. Her 2nd studio album ’Natural Force’ did better and was certified Gold by the RIAA. After 4 semi-successful albums she looked for a change and in 1982 she sought out Jim Steinman as producer. He wrote the monster hit ’Total Eclipse Of The Heart’ for her and the song topped charts across the world. Her album ’Faster Than The Speed Of Night’ entered the UK album charts at #1 and was certified platinum in the USA. Her next album though couldn’t sustain that success and the same happened again. Even though some of the songs from the album later had bigger success with other singers, like ’The Best’ with Tina Turner or ’Save Up All Your Tears’ with Rob
