The Corpus language, with Better Name Pending

Continuing with my quest to educate and inform, here is a language lesson in Corpus. Or maybe just a really bizarre way to test my microphone, using the voice lines you esteemed audience provided me with. Either way really, I think it’s super good and you should watch it like 100 times. Also, FAQ below, since this sort of blew up and since the video is not entirely serious (if you couldn’t glimpse that from the phrase selection) it doesn’t go over the topic in full detail. --- FAQ --- Q: wait I thought the corpus language was just a verbalized encrypted restructuring of the spoken english language through their helmets to protect their speech. When you shoot off the helmet I’m pretty sure they just talk normal english. A: I think that was a popular theory back in the day but factually, they really don’t. Besides, some of the robotic proxies “speak“ “Corpus“ as well. (Raptors - their in-game audio is the letter-replaced English but it’s translated to your game language through dialogue box text) Q: Ok, but what about the complex grammar rules for the Corpus language? You can’t just take a language, find out what letters translate to what, and attempt to speak the jumbled mess. Some letters are silent, some are much more pronounced, and some sound completely different, and some letters only go after others, with some exceptions for certain cases. A general thumb of rule for any language. So it’s possible that some words can be spelled the same, yet have different ways of being pronounced, or spelled differently, yet having the same pronunciation. A good example of this would be “to“, “too“, and “two“, and the excessively long definitions for the word “the“. A: I saw a few threads going over this - people actually trying to rationalize and make sense of it using proper linguistic methods - but the issue is they’ve given it way more thought and effort than DE did when “creating“ the “language“. There are no complex grammar rules. As far as Corpus goes, the devs literally took English, replaced the letters and didn’t think past it. If there were some rules beyond that in the past, they are not reflected the in-game audio/lore - pronunciation varies drastically and is anything but consistent. A lot of people seem to think it’s a tone-based languaged - official source for this claim doesn’t seem to exist though and the in-game differences between the same words (with supposed identical meanings) go against this hypothesis as well. I don’t know. Maybe they had some deeper ideas or concepts for the language at the start. But right now they literally just take an English sentence, replace the letters and tell the VA to read it without any further instructions. ♩♫ Cobra Boots 1 (Niklas Ahlström - ES) ♩♫ Real Synth Music 7 (Stefan Netsman - ES) ♩♫ March Of The Ducks 19 (Håkan Eriksson - ES) ♩♫ “Corrupted“ (Warframe OST) ✦ Twitter: ✦ Discord: #Warframe #Corpus #YotkuyYeytepy
