Scientists Just Announced This New Mechanical Battery Flywheel Comeback

Mechanical Battery, Flywheel, Mechanical Batteries, WEIRDEST Batteries, Future Of Energy Storage, Energy vault, Flywheel battery, Flywheel battery for home We live in a very innovative world___ where everything from our automobiles to our toothbrushes is powered by electricity. Yet__Portable energy efficiency is a big problem. After a century of stagnation, chemical and ultracapacitor batteries have recently made some strides forward, and more are on the horizon. But, the most promising energy storage of the century might come from an unexpected source ___ one that predates any battery by many centuries: The Mechanical Battery also known as the flywheel storage system. First of all, what is it? A flywheel is essentially just a wheel mounted on an axle that can be used to store and modulate energy by spinning constantly. The device is one of the earliest and most ubiquitous technologies in human history. It was used in the potter’s wheel 6,000 years ago, as a stone tablet with adequate volume to rotate smoothly between kicks of a foot pedal; it was an integral part of the great machinery that brought the industrial revolution; and now it’s found under the hood of every car on the road, where it moves the strokes of pistons rather than the stokes of feet. Ongoing research, however, suggests that humanity has yet to seize the true potential of the flywheel. When spun up to very high speeds, a flywheel becomes a reservoir for a massive amount of kinetic energy, which can be stored or drawn back out at will. It becomes, in effect, an electromechanical battery.
