Ex DoD Contractor Busted for Selling US Secrets to Foreign Enemy

Jack Teixeira, a former contractor for the US Department of Defense (DoD), was arrested on Thursday for allegedly stealing and leaking classified information to a foreign entity. According to the indictment, Teixeira worked as a software engineer for a DoD contractor from 2018 to 2020, and had access to sensitive information related to the development of a military satellite system. The indictment alleges that Teixeira downloaded more than 50 gigabytes of classified data from his employer’s network without authorization, and stored it on his personal devices. He also allegedly communicated with an unidentified foreign entity via encrypted messaging apps, and offered to sell them the stolen data for $10 million. Teixeira was charged with one count of unauthorized removal and retention of classified national defense information, and one count of unauthorized transmission of classified national defense information.
