In Marvel Studios’ “Secret Invasion,” Digital Domain spectacularly unveils General Gravik’s Super-Skrull persona, showcasing remarkable creature work and expertise in dynamic character and environment creation. Led by VFX Supervisor David Cunningham, the team navigated the complexity of designing characters, like G’iah and Super-Skrull, who fluidly interchange and morph their powers, necessitating meticulous development of models and transitions. The studio delivered over 120 shots, embracing a sophisticated blend of traditional destruction, power effects, Skrull morphs, full CG environments, and comp integration, alongside detailed animations which required advanced CFX muscle, hair, and clothing simulations. The team’s ingenuity was further exemplified in the creation of Gravik’s Super-Skrull, which involved developing eight unique arms and a distinctive Hulk leg, embracing variations such as Cull Obsidian, Abomination, and Thanos. Additionally, the fully CG build of the ’fight square’ and the abandoned nuclear facility and surrounding Skrull town demonstrated the studio’s unwavering commitment to creating lifelike and enthralling environments, melding plate photography and CG elements with finesse to captivate audiences in every frame.
