A dangerous tornado raged in the Indonesian city Sidoarjo On Tuesday, a tornado passed through a densely populated area in Indonesia’s East Java province, damaging more than 600 homes, the head of a local disaster relief official said. A tornado with a wind speed of 150 kilometers per hour paved a path of destruction in the Sidoarjo area, lasting about five minutes, Dvidjo Pravito of the Indonesian Disaster Relief Agency said by telephone. Videos posted on social media show part of the roof topple off a building as debris is thrown into the air. Sidoarjo is located south of Indonesia’s second largest city, Surabaya. According to Pravito, about 100 people were evacuated to primary school, while others remained to live with family members. In November, 166 homes were damaged when another tornado hit several villages in the same area. Hundreds of homes in four villages and two villages in Crian, Sidoarjo, were damaged by tornadoes.
