S. #rachmaninoff - “Lilacs“ Op. 21 no. 5 (from 12 Romances) transcription
Performed by Peter Akulov.
In the cycle of Twelve Romances, op. 21, created after the end of the cantata “Spring“, in the same spring months of 1902, two main types of works characteristic of Rachmaninoff’s vocal lyrics can be noted. One of them includes light, contemplative landscape-lyrical sketches, mostly very short, concise in volume and manner of writing; the other consists of extended dramatic monologues with a contrasting development and a declamatory vocal part detailed in expression.
The romance “Lilac“ was sometimes perceived as a kind of emblem of Rakhmaiin’s bright “spring“ lyrics. And indeed, his #music is distinguished by a special fragrant freshness and poetic expression. The starting point here is a smooth, flowing figure of accompaniment, associated either with a light breath of the breeze, swaying the branches of flowering bushes, or with the wafting of aromas
