Lady Astor Lays Foundation Stone (1931)

Unused / unissued material - no paperwork - dates unclear or unknown. 1931? South London. Lady Nancy Astor is greeted by dignitaries as she arrives on a podium. A Vicar calls out that the first hymn will be ’Onward Christian Soldiers’. The Chairman speaks about the ceremony. He talks about how the housing problem is near to Lady Astor’s heart and how the ’Band of Hope’ is even nearer. Lady Astor walks down to lay the foundation stone of a building - we hear her chatting to the dignitaries as she spreads mortar. The stone is lowered and she taps it into place. The group return to the podium. A priest says a prayer for the building of the tenements. Lady Astor makes an impassioned speech about the current housing problem.
