Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin (Russian: Ю́рий Алексе́евич Гага́рин[1]; IPA: [ˈjʉrʲɪj ɐlʲɪˈksʲejɪvʲɪtɕ ɡɐˈɡarʲɪn]; 9 March 1934 -- 27 March 1968) was a Soviet pilot and cosmonaut.
