Mendelssohn - “Venezianisches Gondellied“ - Schreier

Felix Mendelssohn was very fond of the Venetian boat song. At least two are included in his solo piano collection of Songs Without Words. He also wrote this lovely vocal setting based on an original poem by the Irish poet Thomas Moore. The German version by Ferdinand Freiligrath is not an exact translation of the Moore so for the purposes of this video I have provided a more literal translation of the German text.
