Falmouth, Cornwall VS Solo Atlantic sailor, Derek Heath and his assistants, making last minute checks on his rubber dinghy, the “Shropshire Star“, before his attempt to cross the Atlantic. CU Custom House signs. (2 shots). MS Heath leaving Customs building, having cleared his papers. VS Heath loads his food supplies (in the form of Compo Rations), signalling flags and puncture outfit. LS and MS Heath with his dinghy moored by the steps in Falmouth Harbour, takes more rations on board. A coach arrives with wellwishers. The Mayor of Falmouth breaks a bottle of Champagne over the boat and Derek Heath drinks the rest. He is seen off by good crowd, including the Mayor, his wife, and Atlantic sailing veteran, Lieutenant Rusty Webb. LS Derek Heath rowing to get out of the harbour. (Very poor shot).
