Flower Collage Art: In the Weeds 2, Using Magazines to Make Art
In this video, I take you through the process of creating a unique collage artwork, utilizing vintage magazines to further develop my series of ’Potted Women’ artworks. Starting with a brief overview of the materials, I then cut out and assemble images from the magazines to form the composition. The careful layering of vintage magazine cutouts results in an evocative artwork. This visual narrative uses elements of the old and new to depict women cleverly positioned within a dresser, symbolizing the historical expectation of women’s roles within the domestic sphere.
As we progress through the video, I delve into the symbolism and motivation behind this piece and the series as a whole. The concept of ’Potted Women’ is an exploration of the cultural restrictions often imposed on women, symbolically representing them as being ’potted’ or confined within the home, akin to houseplants.
