▼Synopsis The Satake domain in Ugo of Akita, which has suffered from famine for years, has plans to exploit a hidden silver mine. Upon detecting this plan, the shogunate’s spies and the domain’s samurai initiate a covert struggle. To investigate the internal situation, Kyōshirō is hired by advisor Mizuno Echizen-no-Kami (Nakao Akira) and enters the territory of the Satake domain. At an inn, Kyōshirō meets Tomoe (Minamino Yōko), a courtesan suffering from a chest disease. Charmed by her kindness, he decides to buy her freedom. However, Tomoe loses her life in the midst of a confrontation between Kyōshirō and assassins. Before dying, he gives Kyōshirō a foreign silver coin. This coin, which was left by Tomoe’s father before committing seppuku three years ago, holds the fate of the Satake domain. Nanakusa Kikusaemon (Tsugawa Masahiko), the officer in charge of surveillance in the Satake domain who is in search of the coin, confronts Kyōshirō. However, realizing that he cannot defeat him, he asks him to take his daughter Shizuno (also played by Minamino Yōko in a double role) to Edo. Shizuno is identical to Tomoe.... This is the second installment of the drama series featuring Tamura Masakazu Tamura as Kyoshiro. The elaborate film production technique feels reminiscent of a special effects spectacle. In the episode where Kyoshiro’s background is unveiled, his tearful lamentation in front of a self-dug gravestone creates a highly impactful scene, especially due to the contrast with his usual demeanor of concealing emotions.
